"Hear our humble prayer, O God, for our friends the animals, especially
for animals who are suffering, for any that are hunted or lost or deserted
or frightened or hungry; for all that must be put to death. We entreat all
Thy mercy and pity, and for those who deal with them we ask a heart of
compassion and gentle hands and kindly words. Make us, ourselves, to
be true friends to animals and so to share the blessings of the merciful."
~Albert Schweitzer

Over the past couple years we have
learned the dog pounds, humane
societies and animal control facilities are
overcrowded. These pets are being
euthanized simply because there is no
room for them. We work with area
animal control personnel and foster as
many dogs and cats as we can. Over
the past year we have saved over 200
animals in our small organization. Below
are a few stories of our fostered pets.
We need foster homes!

Please consider opening up your home to a dog, cat or kitten.
Our rescue provides the food and vet care.

Our rescue saves horses, ponies and
donkeys from auctions headed for slaughter.
To help raise funds for our rescue, we also
save unwanted dogs and cats from the animal
control facilities in the area. We take all
breeds of dogs and cats, young and old,
healthy and sick. They are taken  to our vet to
be spayed or neutered and given all
vaccinations and heart worm tested. If they
are heart worm positive we get them treated.
We foster as many as we can in home
environments and advertise on Pet Finder, go
to pet stores for adoption events, and take a
pet on TV, WLNS Ch 6 (Lansing) each
Tuesday for The Pet of the Day. Those
interested in adopting must go through an
application process. Our goal is to place the
pet in the best home that will keep them for
the rest of their lives. We also state in our
contract that the pet comes back to us in the
future if something should happen and that
new owner can not care for the pet any
longer. We never want our animals to have to
worry for their lives again.
Char Prochazka raised over $500 for Broken Road Rescue when she road
with the Michigan Trail Riders Association participating in the Shore to
Shore trail ride this summer. Char completed 250 miles on her horse from
Oscoda Michigan to Empire Michigan, Lake Huron to Lake Michigan. It
took her 10 days riding 25-30 miles a day. Her co-workers and friends
sponsored her ride for 10 cents a mile. Aside from raising money for the
animals, she had the opportunity to see many great sites and ride with
wonderful Michigan Trail Riders.
